By Helen Ehrlich, Co-Editor-In-Chief

The Red Bull BC One All Star Tour is returning on July 23 in Philadelphia. The tour features breaking, a competitive form of dance popularized by crews around the world. B-boys and b-girls across the nation each year wait for the chance to step to the floor with Red Bull BC One.

16 of the region’s top b-Boys and B-girls will battle in a one-on-one knockout elimination-style bracket format. Breakers from the Northeast will serve as a panel of judges to decide who from Philly advances to the Red Bull BC One National Final in Los Angeles, California.

Thousands of breakers around the world will compete for a chance to compete at the Red Bull BC One World Final. Annually, 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls make it to the final Red Bull BC One stage. Everyone is vying to become the champion, but it all starts in Philadelphia.

Jeyna Ponce, a b-girl who cleaned up in California’s cyphers shared, “As a breaker with a year and a half of experience, it was surreal to win a Red Bull cypher and it allowed me to recognize my potential and skills. Both events introduced me to a supportive community that has helped me grow my knowledge and expertise. I look forward to showcasing my love for this dance while representing my crew Battle Born, my city Las Vegas, and the females of breaking.”

There will be regional cyphers in Austin, Boston, Orlando and Seattle. While the b-boys and b-girls from Philly competing have not yet been publicly named, it will be hosted by Steve Believe and music by DJ Yaks and Skeme Richards. It also takes place during the Tiny Room for Elephants Festival, an annual artist fest in the city.
