During the month of October, the Bryn Mawr College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held their annual Pink Week fundraiser for Living Beyond Breast Cancer. This organization’s mission is to provide a variety of important resources and community building opportunities for those living with breast cancer. They also provide grants to assist in covering the cost of living for people going through treatment.

As a part of SAAC’s fundraising, they provided incentives for donating at their booths stationed at Pem Arch throughout the week. Those who gave $1 were given candy, $5 got a pink ribbon pin, and $20 received a SAAC t-shirt.

The field hockey, soccer, and volleyball teams hosted fundraiser games in collaboration with SAAC during the week. Players wore pink uniforms and ribbons, some even dying their hair to show their support. A statement was read at the beginning of these three games informing fans and spectators about the Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization and encouraging them to join in the fundraising efforts. Additionally, the Bryn Mawr basketball team held a bake sale, showing their support for the cause.

Arguably, the highlight of the week was the fundraising effort that took place during the field hockey game. In addition to the regular incentives, every dollar donated counted as a vote towards an athletics staff member to get pied. At the end of the game, the top three staff members voted for were the swim coach, Arthur Wang, the field hockey coach, Victor Brady, and Athletic Director Cristina Fink, who were all good sports about the pieing.

In total, SAAC was able to raise $985 for Living Beyond Breast Cancer thanks to the Bryn Mawr community.
