Bryn Mawr
The Bryn Mawr field hockey team had a historic season this year. They started off beating their first top ten ranked team in program history, and then continued on to reach the top ten themselves, ranking No. 10 for two consecutive weeks. They ended the season as No. 15, not falling below the top 20 after the second week of the season. The history making did not stop there, as the Owls not only made the NCAA DIII National Tournament for the first time, but made it to the second round, before unfortunately losing to Middlebury. They ended the season with a 15-7 record along with five players earning all-conference recognitions, one player being named NFHCA Player of the Week, fifteen players on the Centennial Conference Honor Roll, two seniors on the NFHCA Senior Team, and five awards for Centennial Conference Player of the Week.
Bryn Mawr cross country also had an impressive season placing 10th out of 25 at the NCAA Metro Regional Championships, an all-time high for the team. Senior Lauren Kitay placed 25th overall, an all-time high for Bryn Mawr’s Metro Regional placing. The team also placed 8th in the Centennial Conference Championships and had 6 athletes named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll. A large number of athletes set personal and season records, and the team looks to be on an upward climb.
The Owls’ volleyball team had a difficult but well fought season, ending with a 4-19 record. They also seem to be on a positive trajectory though, bringing in eight first-years for a team of 16 players this year. This is the largest roster they have had since 2012. First-year Adelaide Grace led the team with 134 kills and Junior Anna Dravk recorded 216 assists. The volleyball team had two athletes named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll, as well as Senior Captain Orli McGuire-Berk being given the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award.
The Bryn Mawr soccer team finished with a 4-10-3 record, winning more games than they have since 2019. Their out-of-conference play was the highlight of their season, with an 8-0 win against Notre Dame of Maryland. First-year goalie Maeve Slemko faced 135 shots this season, saving 90 of them and ending the season with a 0.76 save percentage. Junior Captain Daniela Dosen was given the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award, and ten athletes were named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll.
Bryn Mawr rowing team competed in four regattas this fall, with some impressive performances. Seniors Sarah Stephens and Sara Radmall placed first in the Collegiate DIII Double at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Their Novice Fours boat placed first at this regatta as well. The Owls also placed well at the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta at the end of their fall season.
Haverford
Haverford Men’s Cross Country finished second in the Centennial Conference Championship this year with a score of 66, led by Senior Peter LaRochelle’s second place finish in the Men’s 8k race. In the NCAA Metro Region Championships, the Fords finished third overall, ending their streak of three regional titles. LaRochelle won the Men’s 8k and moved on to the NCAA National Championship, where he finished 40th, taking the final All-American spot.
Haverford Women’s Cross Country finished 5th in the Centennial Conference Championship. In the NCAA Metro Regional Championship the team was 7th out of 25. Sophomores Alice Sappenfield and Anastasia Jaycobs finished 29th and 34th respectively in the Women’s 6k race, both receiving All-Region honors.
Haverford Field Hockey improved from 2023, going from a 2-8 conference record last year to a 6-4 conference record this year. In the Centennial Conference Playoff’s first round, they lost 2-0 against Franklin & Marshall. Three players made All-Centennial Conference teams: junior Naomi York and senior Rachel Marlin were added to the second team, and the Conference named sophomore Erica Pardón as an honorable mention.
Haverford Men’s Soccer had a difficult 2024 season. They were last in the Centennial Conference with a record of 0-7-2, and finished the season 2-11-5 overall. Sophomore Thomas Vanni led the team in points with four goals and two assists, while junior Andrew Fritz tallied three goals and two assists. Sophomore Adam Lacy was named as an Honorable Mention at the All-Centennial Conference.
Haverford Women’s Soccer made the Centennial Conference playoffs for the first time since 2019 after finishing the season sixth in conference with a record of 5-3-2. They fell to Franklin & Marshall in overtime by a score of 1-0. The Fords’ hard work was recognized in the All-Centennial Conference awards. Senior Phoebe Garfield was selected for the first team, seniors Grace Haskell and Kiera Prince were selected for the second team, and junior Olivia Daulerio and senior Sophia Miranda were named Honorable Mentions.
The Haverford women’s volleyball team, coached by fourth year coach Drew Hargrave, had a 13-13 record in the 2024 season, including a 6-4 conference record. They lost in the first round of the centennial conference playoffs to Gettysburg 1-3. Senior middle blocker Taylor Jones and Sophomore opposite hitter Gia Frank were both named to the All-Centennial Conference Second Team. Frank led the team in kills and points, with 266 and 298 respectively, while Jones led the team in hitting percentage at 0.366.
