One of the most highly attended events of the academic year is the Bi-College Fall Student Dance Concert (FSDC). Organized by student Co-Heads, performances are given by dance groups across the Bi-Co as well as solo and duet performances.
On Saturday November 16, students lined up outside of Marshall Theatre for seats and the show kicked off at 7:30 p.m. with an introduction from the Co-Heads. This year, the event was organized by Liv Arp (BMC ’26), Ayantae Cunningham (BMC ’25), Emma Ganaj (HC ’27) and Lila Rivera (HC ’27). FSDC is entirely student run and the Co-Heads work around the clock to make the show happen.
12 dance groups preformed this year, alongside 9 solos and duets. This year’s line up included Barre Owls for the first time, who are Bryn Mawr’s newest and only ballet club alongside annual regulars such as Choom Boom, Afreen, Shift and more.
Several of the dance groups represent cultural dance styles. Mei Bi-College is the Chinese dance club and they preformed two group pieces during the event. Pulso and Haverritmo (both Bi-Co) represent Latinx culture through dance, with Haverritmo also showcasing Hip Hop. Afreen (Bi-Co) and Mayuri (Tri-Co) also preformed at FSDC, with a total of 5 pieces. Both groups showcase South Asian styles of dance. Returning for their second FSDC was Ajoyo, who preformed two dances. Both Ajoyo and Rhythm N Motion, who also performed two dances, represent styles of dance based in the African Diaspora. Rince Na Mawr, the Bi-Co Irish dance club also gave two performances alongside Choom Boom, the Bi-Co’s first K-Pop dance troupe.
Alongside dance troupes featuring cultural styles of dance, FSDC showcased Shift who are the contemporary dance company of the community as well as Noise Complaint, the Bi-Co tap company. Every year, the event also showcases independent dancers in solo and duet performances. This year there were 10 independent performances showcased, each of which with a different style of dance.
The show began with a performance from Haverrtimo called “Knuck If You Buck” that energized the audience for the rest of the showcase. As always, audiences were encouraged to cheer and applaud the dancers as loud as possible, and this year was no different.
Ending with a performance from Bounce to the song “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado, the event was a huge success. As each troupe and dancer came out onto the stage for a bow, audiences gave standing ovations. Friends and family members also had the opportunity to go onto the stage after the bows to congratulate the dancers and take photographs.
FSDC will is expected to return next year with yet another event attended by and enjoyed across the Bi-Co.
