Jeremy Zoll, Haverford class of 2012, was named General Manager of the Minnesota Twins this November. Formerly a catcher for the Haverford baseball team, Zoll got his start in the world of professional baseball through a summer internship with the Cincinnati Reds while he was in college, and from there, he just kept working. By the time he was 28 years old, he had already worked for four different teams in a variety of positions, and this hard work was what got him noticed by the Minnesota Twins, where he was hired as Director of Minor League Operations in 2017. After a few years in that role, Zoll was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2020, and was finally promoted to General Manager after former GM Thad Levine stepped down from the position.
It has now been several months since Zoll stepped into his new role and Spring Training is right around the corner, with the first full team workout slated to take place on February 17, and the first spring training game set for the 22nd. After a disappointing 2024 season that saw the Twins finishing in fourth place in the American League Central with a record of 82-80, the team is looking to Zoll to turn them around for the 2025 season.
In the first two months since coming into his new role, Zoll was quiet on the transactions front, and the Twins roster remained much the same as it had throughout 2024. It wasn’t until early February that the team began making moves at the major league level. Zoll’s first major league signing was left-handed relief pitcher Danny Coulombe on February 7. This is Coulombe’s second stint with the Twins after he spent three seasons with them between 2020 and 2022, during which he pitched in a total of 41 games and maintained a 2.98 ERA. Zoll’s next and final move this offseason was to sign 30-year-old outfielder Harrison Bader. Bader, who played the 2024 season in his hometown with the New York Mets, played 143 games last year, maintaining a .236 average across the season.
With less than a week until the first Spring Training game begins, Zoll’s debut offseason as the Twin’s General Manager is winding down. Although he didn’t make any flashy moves, the Minnesota Twins are still in the running for the AL West. In 2024, many of their best players, including Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa, were injured for parts of the season, and with a healthy roster, the Twins are heavy contenders this season. With a talented general manager at the helm, the Minnesota Twins will look to 2025 for success and another shot at the postseason.
