The 97th Academy Awards Nominations are officially in and were announced on Jan. 23 by comedians Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennot at 5:30 a.m. PT at the Film Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
“Emilia Pérez” is currently in the lead of the Oscars race, earning a total of 13 nominations. It has cemented its record for the most nominations as a Non-English speaking film, following behind “Titanic” and “La La Land” for the most nominations for a single film. Karla Sofía Gascón, the Spanish Leading Actress in “Emilia Perez,” made history this year by becoming the first openly transgender performer to receive this nomination, resulting in the Netflix film contending for Best Actress, Best Directing, and Best Picture.

After “Emilia Pérez,” “The Brutalist” and “Wicked” tied for receiving a total 10 nominations. These three movies as well as “Anora,”“A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys,” and “The Substance” have all earned nominations for Best Picture.
Out of all the Best Director nominees, Coralie Fargeat, who directed “The Substance,” is the only female director to be nominated this year. For the same film, Demi Moore earned her first-ever Academy Award nomination.
