The Bryn Mawr basketball team’s 2024-2025 season was full of team-wide and individual successes compared to years past, and the Owls as a whole seem to be on an upwards trajectory. One such success is their record of 7-18, the most wins the college has seen since the 1993-1994 season, demonstrating their push and dedication towards a higher level of play. Starting the season off strong, the team won both of their games at the Gryphon Invitational, with two seniors, Hannah Binder and Jessica Smith, being named to the all-tournament team. The Owls went on to win their next two games, before breaking their streak at the Goucher College Invitational.

Bryn Mawr basketball then went on to beat Bryn Athyn College, PSU Brandywine, and Cairn University, but were halted once conference play began. The Owls went 0-15 in conference, but did not stop building upon their own performance. Bryn Mawr improved their point differential for six of the conference teams they played in comparison to last year’s scores. There were also quite a few individual wins this season, particularly for senior captain Jessica Smith. Most notably, Smith hit 1000 career points and ended with 1125, which is an achievement only seven other Bryn Mawr basketball players have reached. She also was named to the All-Centennial Second Team, marking the first time in twenty years that a member of the team has received this honor. Rounding out her achievements for this season, Smith was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week for the third time in her career. Other individual achievements included senior Sena Kaper-Dale earning the Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award and eight members of the team making the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2024-2025 season.

The Owls also used their platform in a multitude of ways this season. They held a pride game and a faculty appreciation game, showing their support and appreciation for members of the Bryn Mawr community. They also hosted a game with Champions for Literacy, which is an organization that uses athletes as a voice to bring attention to childhood literacy rates. In addition to this, the team also held a game dedicated to Black History Month with the Bryn Mawr Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where students, faculty, and staff could come and participate in trivia on black history and win prizes.
The team will be graduating four seniors, who have all had a significant impact on the program during their time at Bryn Mawr. After a promising year overall, there is optimism that the Bryn Mawr basketball team will continue on their upwards trajectory in the coming seasons and we look forward to more community building events and exciting achievements.
