Haverford Women’s Basketball Recap

The Haverford Women’s Basketball team wrapped up their season on February 22, winning a matchup against tri-co opponent Swarthmore 53-45. Across their 2024-2025 campaign, the team went 11-14 with a 5-10 conference record.

The team’s season started off strong with a resounding 71-36 win on November 8 against non-division opponent Eastern University, marking their seventh consecutive opening day victory. After being handed a loss in their following game against Immaculata, the rest of the month was a roller coaster of wins and losses, as the team completed November with a 3-3 record, all against non-division foes. In a November 16 game vs the Ramapo Roadrunners, Audrey Jakway scored a career-high 26 points en route to a dominant 80-45 win. Despite close losses versus Lancaster Bible and Neumann, the Fords ended the month on a win, outscoring Rosemont 79-25.

The start of December kicked off the conference season with an away game against Ursinus on December 4, in which the Fords came away with an 80-52 loss. After another loss versus Muhlenberg that weekend, the Fords picked it up again, logging a 75-56 win in a home game against Penn State Brandywine. In their last game before a two-week break, the team scored a season-high of 83 points over Gallaudet, taking the game 83-54.

The second half of the season was started on a strong note as well, with the Fords winning their first game back by a score of 64-56 at Penn State Abington. A week later, the Fords hit another high point as they secured their first conference win of the season in a close game against Franklin & Marshall. After a back and forth game, the matchup went into overtime. The game remained close until Grace Leverton scored a decisive three-point shot to keep the Fords ahead for good, with the final score ending at 74-71.

Later that week, on January 11, the Fords participated in their first bi-co matchup of the season as they hosted the Bryn Mawr Owls at the Gooding Arena. A 64-42 win brought the Fords back to .500 in conference games. Unfortunately, the team did not fare as well in the following weeks as they lost five consecutive games against conference teams, getting outscored 323-268 in the process. They broke their losing streak in a February 5 game against Swarthmore with a 51-37 win, and continued to bash their tri-co foes in the following weeks as they took away games at both Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore with scores of 52-44 and 53-54 respectively.

Although the results were not always what the Fords wanted, the season held plenty of highlights. Their record was much improved from an 8-17 mark in the 2023-2024 season, and with a young team, the group will be back next year looking to keep getting better.
