Bryn Mawr Invites Community to Campus Reform Plan

Earlier this month, tables in the front atrium of New Dorm Dining Hall had posters covered with Post-its and stickers, encouraging students to contribute their ideas for campus and academic changes to Bryn Mawr. This was a part of the Comprehensive Campus Plan vision piloted by President Wendy Cadge and will be carried out by the design firm DLR group. Following the tabling in dining halls and the Campus Center, along with other programming across Bryn Mawr campus, DLR will be returning to campus two more times to continue working with students and staff to map out academic and environmental changes to Bryn Mawr College.

President Wendy Cadge took office in July of last year and has since been continuing strategic planning work that predates her arrival. Her work has included defining four core priorities for Bryn Mawr: commitment to academic excellence, holistic support for students and alums, collaborative approaches to access and inclusion, and building on Bryn Mawr’s public image. These goals are outlined in the murals in the Campus Center, above the hallway leading to the bookstore, and updates to come will appear on the Bryn Mawr website.

With the DLR tabling, students and staff were encouraged to give feedback on strong and weak elements of campus, as well as offer recommendations for improvement opportunities. This included comments on dining halls and residential buildings, suggestions for collaborative work projects and research opportunities, and accessibility and navigation changes that can be made on campus. Students and staff are encouraged to partake in the tabling activities and contribute to this long term, campus-wide project. Additionally, various committees of faculty, staff and students will be meeting throughout this year to involve community members in the planning process. Various projects are expected to unfold over the next few years, building Bryn Mawr as a community that will allow students to thrive both within and beyond Bryn Mawr, allow faculty and staff to lead educational experiences, and build a stronger community for current students, staff, alum, and Mawrters to come.
