Have something to say to that you want published? Write a letter to our editor.
These letters must fit the following guidelines, by being:
- In response to an article or relevant issue. They may use the Bi-Co News as a platform to reach the community or responding to an article. Previously addressed topics will be excluded from consideration.
- No more than 1,000 words. Please aim for about 500 words.
- Written with AP style in mind — it does not have to be written fully in AP style, but must keep these guidelines in mind.
- Include hyperlinked sourcing. Letters that do not pass fact checking or that include unsubstantiated claims will be excluded from publication.
- Only current students, faculty, and staff are allowed to submit to letters to the editor. In other words, you must be an active member of the Bi-Co Community.
Send all letters to news.bico@gmail.com with the subject line “Letter to the Editor.”
Letters to the editor do not reflect the editorial boards views, positions, or personal beliefs. Rather, they function solely as a means of open discourse between members of our community. They are, in the most literal sense, open letters that are available for viewing on our website. That being said, the letters must still abide by legal and ethical standards, and be free from defamatory claims. Read more about our editorial guidelines here.
Guest opinion pieces, which have the ability to be featured in our print edition as well as on our social medias, must follow our freelancing guidelines as well as our editorial standards.
